Regardless, I’m going to explain to you why Widescreen is made the way it is, why its better, and I’ll continue to berate you at the same time. Amazing, I know.
A movie screen is wide and rectangular, unlike your box-like TV set. For a film to fit on your TV set, either the sides have to be cut off, excising much of the picture, action, and characters, or the movie needs to be ‘letterboxed’. Letterboxing, or ‘those black bars,’ returns the movie to its original length and shows you MORE picture, not less. It’s the way the director intended you to see the film- ALL of the film. Sure, it looks smaller, unlike your waist-size, but rest assured you are seeing more of the movie. It doesn’t help that the movie studios and DVD producers continue to pander to the moronic masses by confusing you further and releasing more DVDs in separate formats; Wide and Full. Its like Cable vs Local TV; the local station cuts out all of the fucking swears. You HATE that, right? Am I getting through to you at all..? Anyone…?
